Exploring new opportunities to commercialise your research

Bioengineering is at the interface of engineering and medicine. Technological advances in the last few decades have accelerated the innovation and translation pathways. Due to the ageing population, healthcare innovation is a priority for the government, highlighted through the appointment of the Minister for Life Sciences in 2014 to lead on healthcare innovation.
To encourage and grow innovation, we have created a supportive impact environment. Driven by Professor Rylie Green, Head of Bioengineering, Professor James Moore Jr, Director of Translation, and Professor Dario Farina, Director of Research, we are creating translation pathways to take devices to market, developing future medical device entrepreneurs through the MRes in Medical Device Design and Entrepreneurship and working in partnership with Imperial Innovations and colleagues across Imperial College London.
The Department has 20 spin-out companies and attracts seed and philanthropic funding. The £40M donation to create the BME research hub at the Imperial White City campus will revolutionise translational research. As investment in the medical technology sector continues to grow, the Department will continue to be at the centre of future advances.
